## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MAY 12, 2012, A BEECHCRAFT BONANZA, N2WZ, PILOTED BY ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, DEPARTED HARNETT COUNTY AIRPORT (KHRJ) AT APPROXIMATELY 12:45 P.M. USING RUNWAY 23. VFR CONDITIONS EXISTED AT THE TIME. THERE WERE 5 PASSENGERS ON BOARD THE AIRCRAFT PLUS THE PILOT. THE AIRCRAFT FAILED TO CLIMB AFTER TAKEOFF AND CRASHED APPROXIMATELY 100 YARDS LEFT OF THE RUNWAY 23 CENTERLINE. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED ON ITS BELLY IN A BRIAR PATCH. THE PILOT STATED THAT AFTER TAKEOFF THE ENGINE WAS MAKING NOISES AND NOT PRODUCING ENOUGH POWER. ALL 5 PASSENGERS AND PILOT WERE ABLE TO EXIT THE AIRCRAFT AND THERE WERE NO REPORTED INJURIES. A WITNESS ON THE GROUND STATES THE AIRCRAFT LOOKED VERY SLOW AND UNSTABLE AFTER TAKEOFF AND HE DID NOT HEAR ANY ABNORMALITIES WITH THE ENGINE. A LIMITED POST CRASH INVESTIGATION OF THE ENGINE REVEALED A BROKEN EXHAUST VALVE SPRING ON ONE OF THE CYLINDERS.
