## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE STUDENT PILOT WAS ON HIS FIRST SOLO CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT FROM OLATHE, KS, JOHNSON COUNTY EXECUTIVE AIRPORT (OJC) TO FORT SCOTT, KS (FSK). UPON LANDING ON RUNWAY 18 AT FSK, THE AIRCRAFT VEERED LEFT AND DEPARTED THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A ROCK AND CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 550 FEET EAST OF RUNWAY 18. EVIDENCE INDICATES THE PILOT MAY HAVE UNSUCCESSFULLY ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A "TOUCH AND GO" LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE NOSE LANDING GEAR, ENGINE MOUNTS AND FIREWALL. THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED. VISUAL METEROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WITH WIND ESTIMATED FROM THE SOUTHEAST AT APPROXIMATELY 13 GUSTING TO 23 KNOTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)
