AIRCRAFT DEPARTED TWIN OAKS AIRPARK (7S3) FOR AN INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT. WHILE ON FINAL APPROACH INTO MMV, WITH THE LEFT ENGINE SIMULATED OUT FOR TRAINING PURPOSES, THE CREW SMELLED SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT. THEY CONTINUED THE DESCENT AND THE FUMES IN THE CABIN BECAME MORE INTENSE. UPON LANDING, THE CREW TURNED OFF THE RUNWAY AND ONTO A TAXIWAY. AS THE AIRCRAFT SLOWED TO A STOP, SMOKE STARTED TO BILLOW FROM THE LEFT ENGINE.THE RIGHT ENGINE WAS SHUT DOWN AND THE CREW EXITED THE AIRCRAFT. A TRUCK FROM THE LOCAL FBO ARRIVED IN APPROXIMATELY 4 MINUTES AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE.A POST FIRE INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE/NACELLE AREA WAS CONDUCTED AND REVEALED A LOOSE "B" NUT ATTACHING THE FUEL PRESSURE INLET LINE TO THE FUEL PUMP.A POST FIRE ENGINE TEARDOWN WAS CONDUCTED DUE TO THE LOW TIME SINCE OVERHAUL AND THE RESISTANCE TO PROPELLER ROTATION. ALL DAMAGE APPEARED TO BE CONSISTENT WITH PROXIMITY TO FIRE AND HEAT. NO OTHER ABNORMALITIES WERE FOUND.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System.
