## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT HAD MADE A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING IN A FIELD THE PRIOR DAY DUE TO A POWER LOSS. EXAMINATION REVEALED THE GASCOLATOR SCREEN WAS RESTRICTED WITH SHELLAC FLAKE MATERIAL. 12 GALLONS OF FRESH 100LL WAS ADDED TO THE AIRCRAFT AND ALLOWED TO FLOW THROUGH THE OPEN GASCOLATOR. NEITHER THE CARB INLET SCREEN OR TANK SCREENS WERE CHECKED BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DEPART. THE PILOT PERFORMED A GROUND RUN UP AT 1800 RPM FOR 10 MINUTES AND DETERMINED THAT TO BE A SATISFACTORY CHECK. SHORTLY AFTER ROTATION AT ABOUT 50 FEET THE ENGINE QUIT AND THE PILOT LANDED IN A ROUGH PASTURE. THE NOSE WHEEL FELL IN A HOLE AND THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED OVER FORWARD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN12LA348](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN12LA348), Jun 6, 2012: Piper PA-22-135 (N3431A), Bangor, MI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to properly service the fuel system, and subsequent decision to conduct the flight with known fuel system deficiencies, which led to the total loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
