## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRMAN WAS IN THE FLARE TO LAND WHEN AT AN ALTITUDE OF 2 TO 3 FEET FROM TOUCHDOWN HE ENOUNTERED A GUST OF WIND FROM THE RIGHT. THE PILOT APPLIED FULL POWER AND RIGHT RUDDER. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO FLY AND THE LEFT LANDING GEAR HIT THE JULIET (J) TAXIWAY DIRECTION SIGN ON SNA RUNWAY 19L.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR12CA254](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR12CA254), Jun 9, 2012: Cessna 162 (N5211Y), Santa Ana, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to compensate for the gusting wind and failure to maintain airplane control during the approach to land.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
