## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT WAS ON PERSONAL FLIGHT FROM LEWISTON, ID TO SPOKANE, WA. JUST NORTH OF COLFAX, WA ENGINE LOST POWER. PILOT LANDED ON NORTH-SOUTH HIGHWAY APPROXIMATELY 4 MILES NORTH OF COLFAX, WA. DURING LANDING AIRCRAFT CLIPPED A POWER WIRE WITH THE VERTICAL STABILIZER. INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT REVEALED THAT THE PIPE THREAD PLUG IN THE FUEL BOWL OF THE CARBURATOR WAS MISSING. WHEN FUEL PUMP WAS TURNED ON FUEL STREAMED OUT OF PLUG HOLE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR12CA257](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR12CA257), Jun 11, 2012: Cessna 182A (N4715D), Colfax, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The total loss of engine power during cruise flight due to the missing carburetor drain plug, which had not been secured with safety wire.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
