## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JUNE 14, 2012 AT APPROXIMATELY 2000 LOCAL TIME A CESSNA 172 WAS CLEARED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 36 IN TUPELO, MISSISSIPPI. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT DURING A NIGHT CROSS-COUNTRY FLIGHT FROM OLIVE BRANCH, MISSISSIPPI (OLV) HE LANDED HARD AND BOUNCED ON TOUCH DOWN IN TUPELO, MISSISSIPPI (TUP). THE NOSE GEAR WHEEL BROKE OFF DAMGING THE PROPELLER BLADES AND CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT'S FIRE WALL. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA12CA404](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA12CA404), Jun 15, 2012: Cessna 172K (N78794), Tupelo, MS, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper recovery from a bounced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
