## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

N9005E, CARRYING TWO PASSENGERS AND THE PILOT, DEPARTED NORFOLK (OFK) AIRPORT AS PART OF A BALLOON FESTIVAL IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE OFK AIRSHOW. THE PILOT RECEIVED A WEATHER BRIEF AND NOTED THAT THE OFK WIND WAS LIGHT AND VARIABLE AT THE TIME OF THE 0600 DEPARTURE. THE WIND WAS FORECAST TO REMAIN LIGHT BEYOND THE PROPOSED LANDING TIME OF 0700. THE BALLOON LANDED AT APPROXIMATELY 0715 IN AN ALFALFA FIELD IN WINDS APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH. THE BALLOON TOUCHED DOWN AND CLIMBED THREE TIMES WHILE HOPPING ACROSS THE FIELD. ON THE FORTH LANDING, THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO RAPIDLY DEFLATE THE BALLOON, BUT NOT UNTIL THE AIRCRAFT WAS DRAGGED THROUGH AN AJOINING CORN FIELD. NO DAMAGE OCCURRED TO THE AIRCRAFT, AND ONE PASSENGER RECEIVED A BROKEN ANKLE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN12CA393](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN12CA393), Jun 17, 2012: National Ballooning 858 (N9005E), Pierce, NE, no damage. Probable cause: The balloon pilot’s encounter with increased wind during landing, which resulted in a hard landing and a passenger’s injury.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
