## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JULY 4, 2012, AT APPROXIMATELY 0950 PDTN210BX, A CESSNA 210 TOOK-OFF FROM (S50) AUBURN AIRPORT FLOWN BY ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ALONG WITH 3 PASSENGERS ON-BOARD. ABOUT 5 MINUTES DURING DEPARTURE CLIMB-OUT, THE PIC NOTICED A SMALL AMOUNT OF OIL ON THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD, SECONDS AFTER REQUESTING PERMISSION TO FLY-UP TOWARDS QUEEN ANNE TO SEE THE SPACE NEEDLE. REALIZING THE AIRCRAFT WAS LOSING OIL, THE PIC PROMPTLY INFORMED SEATTLE APPROACH BY DECLARING AN EMERGERENCY. SEATTLE APPROACH OFFERED TO VECTOR THE PILOT TO PIERCE COUNTY AIRPORT, BUT MOMENTS LATER SEATTLE APPROACH ASKED IF THE PIC WOULD PREFER TO LAND AT MCCHORD AFB INSTEAD DUE TO PROXIMITY. THE PILOT READILY ACCEPTED TO LAND AT MCCHORD AFB AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.ON THE GROUND, THE PIC DISCOVERED THAT THE OIL FILLER CAP WAS NOT SECURED CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO LOSE 1 1/2 QUARTS, STILL WITHIN MINIMUM AT 7 1/2 QUARTS REMAINING. IT APPEARED THAT DURING THE SERVICING PERFORMED AT AUBURN AIRPORT, ONE OF THE PASSENGERS VOLUNTEERED TO SECURE THE OIL FILLER CAP AFTER SERVICING, BUT THE PIC FAILED TO INSPECT AND VERIFY ITS CONDITION BEFORE LEAVING AUBURN AIRPORT. .

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
