## Narrative

DURING CLIMBOUT, AT MID-FIELD, AT AN ALTITUDE OF 150' AGL THE ENGINE MADE A LOUD POP, SENT A LARGE PUFF OF WHITE SMOKE OUT THE TAILPIPE AND QUIT. THE PILOT REALIZED THERE WAS NOT MUCH RUNWAY LEFT IN FRONT OF HIM AND PERFORMED AN 'S' TURN TO BLEED OFF ALTITUDE. THE PILOT MAEUVERED THE AIRCRAFT TO ATTEMPT TOUCHDOWN ON THE REMAINING RUNWAY, HOWEVER, LANDED IN THE GRASS TO THE NORTH SIDE OF THE RUNWAY ABEAM THE NUMBERS OF 30. DURING TOUCHDOWN THE LEFT MLG COLLAPSED AND ONE PROPELLER BLADE CONTACTED THE GROUND. THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
