## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE GLIDER'S RIGHT WING CONTACTED A TREE DURING AN OFF AIRPORT LANDING APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES WEST OF THE BEND AIRPORT (KBDN). THE GLIDER WAS TOWED TO AN ALTITUDE OF APPROXIMATELY 6000 FEET (APPROXIMATELY 2600 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL) AFTER DEPARTURE FROM KBDN. THE GLIDER REACHED A MAXIMUM ALTITUDE OF 6500 FEET. THE PILOT INDICATES THAT HE EXPERIENCED A LOSS IN LIFT AND WAS FORCED TO ATTEMPT AN OFF AIRPORT LANDING ON A ROAD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR12CA304](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR12CA304), Jul 13, 2012: Schempp Hirth Nimbus II (N96132), Redmond, OR, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of aerodynamic lift that resulted in a forced landing on unsuitable terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
