## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

A FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT WERE ON A TRAINING FLIGHT. WHILE IN THE TRAFFIC PATTERN CLIMBING THROUGH 800 FEET, THEY HEARD A VERY LOUD NOISE, FOLLOWED BY EXTREME VIBRATIONS. THE INSTRUCTOR REDUCED POWER IN AN ATTEMPT TO REDUCE THE VIBRATIONS, WITH NO SUCCESS. THE ENGINE WAS SHUTDOWN AND THE AIRCRAFT LANDED. THE AIRCRAFT WAS TOWED TO THE RAMP WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT. NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA12IA459](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA12IA459), Jul 15, 2012: Socata TB10 (N189TB), Pawtucket, RI, incident, no damage. Probable cause: The in-flight separation of the propeller blade tip due to a fatigue fracture.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
