## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING A SIMULATED POWER-OFF AUTOROTATION WITH A POWER RECOVERY, THE INSTRUCTOR AND THE PILOT RECEIVING REFRESHER PROFICIENCY TRAINING BOTH NOTED THE AIRSPEED WAS EXCEEDING OPTIMUM FOR MAIN ROTOR RPM AND THE MAIN ROTOR RPM WAS DECAYING. AT ABOUT 200-150 FEET, THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT TOOK THE CONTROLS, AND EXECUTED A GOOD FLARE AT ABOUT 50 FEET. HE DETERMINED THE AIRCRAFT WAS GOING TO FALL THROUGH AND IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO ABORT THE MANEUVER SO CLOSE TO THE RUNWAY. HE LEVELED THE AIRCRAFT AND THE AIRCRAFT HIT HARD ENOUGH TO SPREAD THE SKID GEAR. THE AIRCRAFT SLID APPROXIMATELY 75 FEET DOWN RUNWAY 16. IT THEN SKID TO THE LEFT AND WHEN THE SKIDS STRUCK THE DIRT ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE RUNWAY IT CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO ROLL SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE COMING TO REST ON ITS LEFT SIDE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR12CA307](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR12CA307), Jul 16, 2012: Robinson Helicopter R22 (N47WH), Bountiful, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student’s failure to maintain adequate rotor rpm and the flight instructor’s delayed remedial action, which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
