## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT HAD A NEW VIKING HONDA ENGINE INSTALLED IN THE AIRCRAFT ON FEBRUARY 7, 2011 AS DOCUMENTED IN HIS PILOT LOG BOOK. THE PILOT DID NOT ANTICIPATE THE WEATHER CONDITIONS IN HIS PLANNED ROUTE FROM KLBT TO KVTA. HE WAS APPROX. 10 MINUTES AWAY FROM HIS INTENDED FUEL STOP AT KVTA. HIS FINAL DESTINATION WAS KOSH. HE HAD FLOWN A SIMILAR ROUTE ON JULY 25, 2010 TO KOSH WITH A DIFFERENT ENGINE AND FUEL BURN. THE REPORTED WEATHER CONDITIONS FORCED HIM NOT TO FLY IN A DIRECT ROUTE. THERE WAS A 50-60 NM SYSTEM PRODUCING LOW CLOUDS, RAIN AND LIGHTNING WHICH WOULD CAUSE THE PILOT TO DIVERT. THIS ACTION CONTRIBUTED TO RUNNING HIS WING AND HEADER TANKS DRY. THE LIGHT SPORT RULE DOES NOT REQUIRE A PILOT TO MAINTAIN A MEDICAL. THE PILOT WAS A DIABETIC.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate fuel management, which resulted in a loss of engine power due to fuel exhaustion. Contributing to the accident was the inadvertent stall during the pilot’s emergency landing…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
