## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRMAN LANDED THE AIRCRAFT ON A SANDY MORAINE BELOW A GLACIER, AND WAS REPOSITIONING THE AIRCRAFT FOR TAKE-OFF. HE STOPPED SHORT OF WHAT APPEARED TO BE A SHALLOW STREAM, SHUT THE AIRCRAFT DOWN, AND GOT OUT TO CHECK THE STREAMS DEPTH. AFTER PROBING THE STREAM WITH A STICK AND THEN WITH HIS HANDS HE DETERMINED THAT THE STREAM WAS APPROXIMATELY FIVE INCHES DEEP AND WOULD BE SAFE TO TAXI ACROSS. ONCE BACK IN THE AIRCRAFT HE STARTED THE ENGINE AND BEGAN TO SLOWLY CROSS THE STREAM AND WHILE CROSSING, THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR BROKE THROUGH THE STREAM BED AND SANK INTO A DEEP HOLE RESULTING IN A PROPELLER STRIKE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
