## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

STUDENT PILOT WAS PRACTICING SHORT FIELD LANDINGS WHEN SHE LANDED HARD ON THE LEFT MAIN GEAR, STRUCK THE TAIL TIE-DOWN, AND SUBSEQUENTLY HAD NOSE GEAR HIT HARD, RESULTING IN DAMAGE TO FIREWALL/NOSE GEAR MOUNT. NO PROPELLER STRIKE OCCURRED. NO INJURY RESULTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR12CA345](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR12CA345), Jul 25, 2012: Cessna 172N (N738AJ), Ashland, OR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's improper flare, which resulted in a hard landing.

## Other reports on N738AJ (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19790307010539A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19790307010539A), Mar 7, 1979: Cessna 172 (N738AJ), Independence, OR, Substantial damage. Instructor pilot's seat became unlatched as he applied rudder to correct for loss of directional control on landing

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
