## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

N471BB PILOTED BY ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ DEPARTED RUNWAY 36 AT AURORA AIRPORT, SUGAR GROVE, ILLINOIS, WHEN IT THEN IMPACTED THE GROUND IN A CORNFIELD NORTH OF RUNWAY 36. CURRENT ATIS REPORT AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WAS 1352Z 160009KT 9SM SCT250 26/21 A2987. ACCORDING TO AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL TAPES ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ REQUESTED TO DEPART RUNWAY 36 WITH A TAILWIND. THE AIRCRAFT WAS CLEARED FOR TAKE-OFF. ACCORDING TO ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ THE AIRCRAFT LIFTED-OFF HALF WAY DOWN THE RUNWAY, HE RETRACTED THE GEAR, THE ENGINE STARTED TO RUN ROUGH AND HE ATTEMPTED TO LAND IN THE CORNFIELD JUST NORTH OF RUNWAY 36. THERE WERE NO INJURIES, BUT THE AIRCRAFT DAMAGE WAS SUBSTANTIAL. NO MECHNICAL ABNORMALITIES WERE FOUND WITH THE AIRCRAFT, ENGINE OR PROPELLER. THE PROPELLER WAS UNDER POWER WHEN IT IMPACTED THE GROUND. A WITNESS WHO WAS HOLDING SHORT OF RUNWAY 18 FOR DEPARTURE STATED THAT N471BB WAS ONLY 30-40 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND WHEN IT FLEW PAST HIM AND THEN WENT INTO THE CORNFIELD. HE STATED THAT THE ENGINE SOUNDED NORMAL AND WAS PRODUCING POWER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN12LA481](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN12LA481), Jul 25, 2012: Raytheon B36TC (N471BB), Sugar Grove, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The partial loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined because postaccident testing and examination did not reveal any anomalies that would have precluded normal operation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
