## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT ENTERED A SHORT FINAL USING A SLIDE SLIP TO THE RIGHT TO MANEUVER AROUND TERRAIN AND TO BLEED OFF AIRSPEED WHICH WAS 15 KNOTS ABOVE APPROACH SPEED AT ABOUT 200 FEET AGL. AFTER SIDE SLIP ALIGNED AIRCRAFT WITH RUNWAY CENTERLINE AIRSPEED INDICATED 65 KNOTS. AT THAT POINT, AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED SUDDEN SINK RATE AT 40-75 FEET ABOVE RUNWAY ELEVATION AND ABOUT 300-500 FEET FROM END OF RUNWAY WHEN WIND WENT FROM A HEAD WIND TO CALM. PILOT WAS UNABLE TO ARREST SINK RATE AND RECOVER EVEN AFTER POWER WAS APPLIED BECAUSE OF LAG TIME IN TURBINE SPOOL UP OR POSSIBLE COMPRESSOR STALL DUE TO BRISK AND SUDDEN POWER LEVER INPUT.AIRCRAFT DESCENDED SHORT OF THE RUNWAY WITH THE MAIN GEAR IMPACTING THE EDGE (WIDTH) OF THE APPROACH END OF RUNWAY. AIRCRAFT BOUNCED AND ROLLED TO A LEFT VEERING STOP. PILOT TAXIED AIRCRAFT OFF THE ACTIVE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR12CA346](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR12CA346), Aug 6, 2012: Cessna 208 (N9727F), Chula Vista, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to arrest the aircraft's sink rate on short final, which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
