## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 12, 2012 AT APPROXIMATELY 15:08 PDT, AIRCRAFT N3580A, A PIPER PA-22, SERIAL NUMBER 22-1855, WAS PERFORMING TOUCH AND GO'S ON RUNWAY 18R AT THE NAPA COUNTY AIRPORT (APC) IN NAPA, CA. THE PILOT LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND IT CRASHED TO THE RIGHT OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT STATED THAT, DURING LANDING AND WHILE SHE WAS MAINTAINING A SLIGHT CRAB ANGLE, THE AIRPLANE BOUNCED OFF THE RUNWAY. SHE WAS UNABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL, MOSTLY DUE TO DISTRACTIONS IN THE CABIN FROM THE PASSENGER.A POST-ACCIDENT AIRWORTHINESS INSPECTION DID NOT IDENTIFY ANY MECHANICAL IRREGULARITES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR12CA354](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR12CA354), Aug 12, 2012: Piper PA-22 (N3580A), Napa, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate landing flare, which resulted in a bounced landing and subsequent loss of directional control during the landing roll.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
