## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

INSTRUCTOR WAS TEACHING LANDINGS, AFTER TOUCH DOWN THE RIGHT SHOCK STRUT TUBE BROKE. THIS CAUSED THE RIGHT GEAR TO COLLAPSE. THE RIGHT WING TIP STRUCK THE GROUND AND THE AIRPLANE NOSED OVER. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A STOP IN AN ALMOST VERTICAL POSITION. THERE WAS SUBSTANIAL DAMAGE TO THE WINGS AND FUSELAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA12LA518](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA12LA518), Aug 16, 2012: Meyers OTW-160 (N26490), Worton, MD, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's improper landing flare and the flight instructor's inadequate remedial action, which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
