## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT WAS WITH AN INSTRUCTOR CONDUCTING MOUNTAIN FLYING TRAINING. THE AIRCRAFT WAS RETURNING TO HOME BASE AFTER HAVING LUNCH AT A REMOTE AIRFIELD. THE PILOT WAS INSTRUCTED TO TURN UP A RIVER CANYON AS A SHORTER ROUTE BACK TO BASE. AT A FORK IN THE RIVER THE WRONG FORK WAS TAKEN. AFTER THE CREW RECOGNIZED THEIR MISTAKE THEY TRIED TO TURN AROUND BUT FOUND THAT THE TERRAIN WAS TOO TIGHT AND THE AIRCRAFT COULD NOT OUTCLIMB THE RISING TERRAIN. THE AIRCRAFT HIT THE TREES AND CAME TO REST INVERTED.AMENDED ON 9/26/12 TO CORRECT BLOCKS 29, 31, 32, & 42.
