## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT STATED THAT HIS ENGINE BEGAN TO RUN ROUGH AND WAS LOSING POWER. HE WAS IN CONTACT WITH ATC AND THEY INFORMED HIM OF HIS CLOSEST AIRPORTS. UNABLE TO REACH AN AIRPORT THE AIRCRAFT WAS FORCED TO DITCH IN THE SALT WATER. THE PILOT EXITED THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT INJURY AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO A SEMI LAND MASS FAIRLY CLOSE TO THE PARTIALLY SUBMERGED AIRCRAFT AND WAS RESCUED BY THE USCG AND TAKEN TO USCG AIR STATION CLEARWATER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA12LA522](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA12LA522), Aug 22, 2012: Piper PA-28RT-201T (N2970G), Hernando Beach, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: A partial loss of engine power due to a blockage of the No. 6 cylinder fuel injector nozzle.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
