## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AT CRUISE FLIGHT THE ENGINE STARTING VIBRATING AND EXPERIENCING REDUCED POWER. ATC RECOMMENDED HE DIVERT TO 8N4 AIRPORT. HE APPROACHED THE RUNWAY 20 FOR LANDING DOWNHILL, BUT TOUCHED DOWN LONG AND FAST AND DECIDED TO GO-AROUND EVEN THOUGH HE STILL EXPERIENCED REDUCED ENGINE POWER. HE PERFORMED A 180 DEGREE TURN TO LAND ON RUNWAY 2, BUT DID NOT MAKE IT TO THE RUNWAY AND LANDED SHORT. UPON IMPACT THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE NOSE LAND GEAR AND THEN FLIPPED OVER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA12LA539](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA12LA539), Aug 31, 2012: Cessna 172M (N391R), Canadensis, PA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to attain a proper glidepath.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
