## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT STATEMENT:

I HAD A SOLO CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT: FARMINGDALE / GROTON / BRIDGEPORT / FARMINGDALE.

THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED DURING FINAL LANDING AT FARMINGDALE AROUND 11.30 AM.

I WAS LANDING ON RUNWAY 32, WITH WIND OF 10 KTS FROM 350 ( 5 KTS CROSSWIND ).

APPROACH WAS GOOD BUT I HAD A HARD LANDING DUE TO FLARING TO HIGH ON THE RUNWAY.

HARD LANDING RESULTED IN FLAT TYRE ON FRONT GEAR AND SMALL PROPELLER STRIKE.

END.

PILOT?S STATEMENT IS CONSISTENT WITH KNOWN FACTS, HOWEVER AIRCRAFT DAMAGE WAS NOT LIMITED TO THE PROPELLER AND TIRE. THE FIREWALL AND FLOORBOARDS WERE BUCKLED, AND THE ENGINE WILL HAVE TO BE TORN DOWN DUE TO THE PROP STRIKE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA12CA569](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA12CA569), Sep 1, 2012: Cessna 172S (N2409E), Farmingdale, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's improper landing flare, which resulted in a hard landing.

## Other reports on N2409E (1)

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
