## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON SEPTEMBER 4, 2012 N4127Z CRASHED INTO A CLIFF DEPARTING EKWOK. I HAVE SENT A LETTER OF INVESTIGATION AND MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO CALL THE INDIVIDUAL. I WILL AMEND THIS -23 WHEN I AM ABLE TO TALK TO THE PILOT.10/9/12 AMENDMENT, THE PILOT STATED THAT AS HE WAS DEPARTING EKWOK HE FORGOT TO RAISE HIS WATER RUDDERS. DURING DEPARTURE HE LOOKED DOWN TO RAISE THE RUDDERS AND THE AIRCRAFT WEATHER VEINED INTO THE WIND AND HIT THE CLIFF.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC12CA101](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC12CA101), Sep 5, 2012: Piper PA-18-150 (N4127Z), Ekwok, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's diverted attention during the initial climb, which resulted in a collision with trees.

## Other reports on N4127Z (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19830331011359A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19830331011359A), Mar 31, 1983: Piper PA18150 (N4127Z), Anchorage, AK, Substantial damage. Pilot lost directional control during landing and aircraft went off runway and nosed over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
