## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

SPRINGFIELD APPROACH ISSUED AN ILS RWY 14 CLEARANCE AND COMMUNICATION WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE CONTROL TOWER. ABOUT THREE MINUTES AFTER ESTABLISHING COMMUNICATION, THE PILOT REQUESTED VECTORS TO RE-INTERCEPT THE FINAL APPROACH COURSE. THE TOWER INSTRUCTED THE PILOT TO TURN TO 360 DEGREES AND MAINTAIN 3,000. IMMEDIATELY AFTER INITIATING HEADING CHANGE, THE PILOT STATED THAT HE NEEDED HELP. THERE WERE NO FURTHER RADIO TRANSMISSIONS AND WITHIN 30 SECONDS RADAR CONTACT WAS LOST.THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED TERRAIN IN A NEAR-VERTICAL ATTITUDE WITH HIGH ENERGY APPROXIMATELY 6 NM NORTH OF THE AIRPORT. POST-IMPACT FIRE CONSUMED MUCH OF THE WRECKAGE.
