THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE BOTTOM FROM SCRAPING ON THE RUNWAY. THE PROPELLER WAS DAMAGED FROM IMPACT WITH THE RUNWAY. MINOR DAMAGE TO THE FLAPS, INBOARD. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE INSTRUCTOR OR STUDENT. THERE WAS NO FIRE AND NO ADDITIONAL DAMAGE. WEATHER WAS NOT A FACTOR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR12CA435](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR12CA435), Sep 20, 2012: Piper PA24 (N8648P), Madera, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student's and flight instructor’s failure to ensure that the landing gear was extended prior to landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
