## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT TOOK OFF FROM SXQ ON 10/13/2012 AT 0137 ADT FROM RWY 7, TURNED SOUTH THEN WEST TO THE COAST. UPON REACHING THE COAST, THE A/C TURNS NORTH HEADING PAST KENAI. DURING THIS TIME THE A/C IS FLYING AT APPROXIMATELY 500 AGL. THE A/C HEADS WEST OUT OVER THE COOK INLET THEN MAKES AN ABRUPT LEFT TURN, A 245 DEGREE CIRCLE, WHERE IT DROPS OUT OF RADAR AT 0238 ADT AND APPEARS FOUR MINUTES LATER AT 0242 ADT HEADING NORTH. THE A/C THEN TURNS WEST AND THE LAST RADAR HIT IS AT 0248 ADT OVER THE COOK INLET APPROXIMATELY 9 MILES SW OF THE TYONEK AIRPORT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC13FAMS1](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC13FAMS1), Oct 13, 2012: Piper PA-18-150 (N444LZ), Kenai, AK, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: Undetermined. The airplane and pilot were not found.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
