As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON OCTOBER 15, 2012 ABOUT 15:55 ADT, N27PH, A GRUMMAN C-1A TRADER WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED WHEN IT IMPACTED THE GROUND 12 MILES WEST OF WILLOW, ALASKA. THE PILOT IN COMMAND, THE SOLE OCCUPANT OF THE AIRCRAFT, WAS FATALLY INJURED. A POST IMPACT FIRE ENSUED. THE FLIGHT WAS CONDUCTED UNDER 14 CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS §91. THE CARGO CONFIGURED AIRCRAFT WAS HAULING 800 GALLONS OF DIESEL FUEL IN TWO RUBBER BLADDER TANKS SECURED IN THE CARGO AREA FROM WASILLA MUNICIPAL AIRPORT, WASILLA, ALASKA TO NIXON FORK MINE.

RADAR PLOTS PROVIDED BY AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL INDICATE N27PH DEPARTED WASILLA AROUND 15:22 ADT. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED, HOWEVER, LOW CEILINGS, FOG AND SNOW SHOWERS WERE IN THE AREA AND ALONG THE ROUTE OF FLIGHT. BETWEEN 20 AND 30 MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT, THE AIRCRAFT TURNED AROUND AND APPEARED TO BE RETURNING TO WASILLA MUNICIPAL AIRPORT, WASILLA, ALASKA BASED ON THE RADAR PLOTS PROVIDED. ON THE RETURN PORTION OF THE RADAR TRACKS, THE RECORDED GROUND SPEEDS VARIED FROM 117 TO 175 KNOTS. THE LAST INDICATION ON RADAR, PRIMARY TARGET ONLY, WAS 7 MILES FROM THE IMPACT SITE. IT IS ESTIMATED PRIMARY TARGET COVERAGE IN THAT AREA TO BE DOWN TO 300 AGL.
