## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT STATED THAT HE DEPARTED THE PRESCOTT AIRPORT (KPRC) AT APPROXIMATELY 10:09 AM FOR DEER VALLEY AIRPORT (KDVT). PILOT STATED THAT OIL PRESSURE WAS NORMAL ON TAKEOFF AND CLIMB OUT. PILOT STATED THAT HE CLIMBED TO 7,500 FEET MSL AND CONTACTED ALBUQUERQUE CENTER FOR TRAFFIC ADVISORIES. PILOT STATED THAT ABQ CENTER TRANSFERRED HIM TO PHOENIX APPROACH, OVER THE MOUNTAINS NORTH OF LAKE PLEASANT. PILOT STATED THAT WHILE OVER THE MOUNTAINS, HE NOTICED THE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE WAS BELOW 30 PSI. PILOT STATED THAT HE FELT THAT HE DID NOT HAVE ANY VIABLE OPTIONS FOR LANDING AND CONTINUED TO PROCEED TOWARDS KDVT. PILOT STATED THAT OIL TEMPERATURE, CYLINDER HEAD TEMPERATURE AND EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURES WERE NORMAL. PILOT STATED THAT PHOENIX APPROACH TRANSFERRED HIM TO KDVT TOWER. PILOT STATED THAT SHORTLY THERE AFTER HE NOTICED THE OIL PRESSURE HAD DROPPED TO ALMOST ZERO, AND STATED THAT SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. PILOT STATED THAT HE PULLED THE MIXTURE TO IDLE CUT OFF, DECLARED AN EMERGENCY WITH THE TOWER, AND DETERMINED THAT HE WAS CLOSER TO PLEASANT VALLEY AIRPORT (P48) THAN KDVT. PILOT STATED THAT HE ADVISED DEER VALLEY TOWER THAT HE WOULD BE DIVERTING TO P48. PILOT STATED THAT HE TRIMMED THE AIRCRAFT FOR BEST GLIDE AIRSPEED, LEFT THE GEAR AND FLAPS UP, AND TURNED TOWARD P48. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE DETERMINED HE COULD NOT MAKE THE P48 AIRPORT, AND ADVISED THE TOWER HE WOULD BE TOUCHING DOWN IN THE DESERT. PILOT TOUCHED DOWN IN THE DESERT APPROXIMATELY 2.5 MILES FROM P48. THE AIRCRAFT SUFFERED SEVER DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING AND FUSELAGE, NO REPORT OR EVIDENCE OF PRE OR POST FIRE. THE AIRCRAFT HAD OIL STREAKING ON THE RIGHT SIDE FROM THE ENGINE COWL BACK TO THE TAIL WITH HEAVY RESIDUE ON THE UPPER INBOARD SURFACE OF THE RIGHT WING AND RIGHT ENGINE COWL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR13LA015](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR13LA015), Oct 18, 2012: Beech N35 (N671VC), Phoenix, AZ, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power due to oil starvation due to loose oil cooler attachment bolts. Contributing to the accident was inadequate maintenance during the annual inspection.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
