## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS IN THE PROCESS OF DOING TOUCH AND GO'S IN THE TECNAM AIRPLANE HE RENTED AT PALOMAR AIRPORT.AFTER TAKEOFF AT PALOMAR, HE WAS ASSIGNED RIGHT TRAFFIC AND CLEARED TOUCH AND GO BY THE CONTROL TOWER.( ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AT THIS POINT, HAD ONLY 2.6 HOURS IN THIS TYPE OF LIGHT-SPORT AIRCRAFT.)^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ TURNED FINAL SET FLAPS TO APPROXIMATELY 40 DEGREES, AND TOUCHED DOWN SOFTLY (HE SAYS). DELL THEN SAID HE ADDED FULL POWER, APPROXIMATELY 4000 RPMS, AND HIS INTENTION WAS TO ACCOMPLISH A TOUCH AND GO. AS ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ FOLLOWED THROUGH, HE SAID HE PULLED BACK ON THE STICK AND WAS NOT CLIMBING AT THE RATE HE WAS USED TO. HE ALSO STARTED TO NOTICE THE PLANE WAS YAWING HEAVILY TO THE LEFT OR SOUTH OF THE RUNWAY. NOT ACCUSTOMED TO THIS SIGHT PICTURE OR THE REDUCED CLIMB RATE, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ LEFT FULL TAKEOFF POWER ON THE ENGINE, AND FORCED THE PLANE TO THE GROUND STRIKING THE RUNWAY AND THE DIRT HEAVILY. AT THIS POINT DELL STILL HAD FULL POWER AND THE PLANE WAS DIVERGING FROM THE RUNWAY DRIVING QUICKLY (ABOUT 40-50 KNOTS) TOWARDS THE PREMIER JET RAMP AND A NUMBER OF PARKED AIRPLANES, BOTH JETS AND HELICOPTERS. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ PATH TOOK HIM ALL THE WAY ONTO THE RAMP WHERE HE STRUCK A PARKED HELICOPTER AND DESTROYED THE TAIL BOOM. THE PLANE CAME TO A REST AFTER STRIKING AND DESTROYING BOTH WINGS AND SHEARING OFF THE MAJORITY OF THE NOSE LANDING GEAR. DELL WAS NOT INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
