## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON NOVEMBER 24, 2012, THERE WAS MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON N2156T IN WHICH AN ALTERNATOR WAS REMOVED AND REPLACED. THAT ALTERNATOR SUBSEQUENTLY DIDN'T WORK. IT WAS AGAIN REPLACED WITH A NEW UNIT WITH THE SAME RESULTS. AFTER THE PILOT CONSULTED WITH HIS MECHANIC, WHICH WAS LOCATED IN FLORIDA, THE FIELD WIRE WAS CUT AND LUGGED WITH A TERMINAL AND THEN ATTACHED TO THE MASTER BATTERY RELAY. THIS RESULTED IN SMOKE AND FIRE IN THE COCKPIT.

Narrative: after receiving one hour of dual flight training, Mr. Welch was released to fly solo in the traffic pattern. He was practicing take-off and landings…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
