## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON DECEMBER 2, 2012, AN AEROTEK, INC. PITTS SPECIAL S-1T, EXPERIMENTAL EXHIBITION ONLY, WITH PILOT IN COMMAND ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ATTEMPTED A LANDING AT BILLINGS RUNWAY 28L, WITH VMC CONDITIONS AND WIND AT 210 AND LESS THAN 10 KNOTS. UPON TOUCHDOWN, AIRCRAFT WAS SWERVING LIKE IT WANTED TO GROUNDLOOP. PIC MADE SEVERAL RUDDER INPUTS, BUT WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE SWERVING AND INITIATED A GO AROUND. PIC ATTEMPTED A SECOND LANDING AND WAS AGAIN UNABLE TO CONTROL THE AIRCRAFT. AIRCRAFT SWERVED AND FLIPPED OVER AS IT CAME TO REST.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR13LA063](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR13LA063), Dec 2, 2012: Aerotek Pitts S-1T (N49309), Billings, MT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inability to maintain directional control during the landing roll because of the failure of the tailwheel support bracket.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
