## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

IN VMC CRUISE FLIGHT IN ROUTE TO MIT FROM CRQ AT 16,000 FT APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES SOUTH OF LGB THE PILOT AND PASSENGER NOTICED AN ELECTRICAL SMELL IN THE AIRPLANE FOLLOWED BY A TRACE OF SMOKE IN THE CABIN. THE PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY WITH LOS ANGELES CENTER AND DIVERTED TO LGB. WHILE DESCENDING TO LGB THE PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT THE CAUSE WAS THE LEFT FORWARD FACING SEAT WINDOW FLUORESCENT LIGHT ASSEMBLY. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED AT LGB WITH NO FURTHER ISSUES.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
