## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MONDAY, JANUARY 14, 2013, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, PILOT IN COMMAND (PIC), WAS CONDUCTING A PATROL FLIGHT WHICH ORIGINATED AT MARATHON AIRPORT (MTH), MONROE COUNTY FL. TO THE FT. LAUDERDALE EXECUTIVE AIRPORT (FXE), BROWARD COUNTY FL. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED MTH APPROXIMATELY AT 1540 LOCAL TIME WITHOUT INCIDENT.

AT APPROXIMATELY 1724, THE PIC AND THE OBSERVER NOTICE AN ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL. THE OVERHEAD AND THE FRONT PANEL WERE SCANNED FOR ANY INDICATION OF SMOKE OR MALFUNCTION, NO INDICATION OF SMOKE OR MALFUNCTIONS WERE NOTICED. AT APPROXIMATELY 1725 THE FXE ATC WAS CONTACTED AND AN EMERGENCY WAS DECLARED. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED SAFELY IN A FIELD NEAR 3333 NW 90TH TERRACE SUNRISE, FL. POST LANDING INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE CABIN AREA.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
