## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 2/20/2013, THE CVG FSDO WAS NOTIFIED OF A FLIGHT ATTENDANT THAT HAD INJURED HERSELF BY FALLING OUT OF THE FWD/RIGHT RIGHT SERVICE DOOR OF THE AIRCRAFT.

AFTER FOLLOW-UP, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT HAD FALLEN OUT OF THE SERVICE DOOR DUE TO TRYING TO REACH FOR A PASSENGERS PAPERWORK IN ROW 1A THAT HAD BLOWN AWAY DUE TO THE DOOR OPENING AND GUSTING WINDS.. THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT STEPPED BACK AND LOST HER BALANCE, TRIPPING OVER BAGS OF ICE PLACED IN THE GALLEY BY RAMP PERSONNEL JUST PRIOR.

THE BAGS OF ICE HAD BEEN REQUESTED BY THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT TO BE BROUGHT TO THE AIRCRAFT BY THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT.

THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT FELL TO THE GROUND LANDING ON HER SIDE/BACK, ALSO HITTING HER HEAD.

THE CAPTAIN AND FIRST OFFICER ASSISTED HER WHILE THE RAMP AGENT CALLED PARAMEDICS.

THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT WAS ABLE TO WALK TO THE AMBULANCE ON HER OWN AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT SHE HAD SUFFERED A THORACIC FRACTURE TO THE 12TH VERTEBRAE.

REVIEWED 03/06/2013. JEB.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DCA13CA056](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DCA13CA056), Feb 19, 2013: Embraer EMB-145LR (N283SK), Hebron, KY, no damage. Probable cause: an inadvertent fall out of the open service door because the safety strap was not attached.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
