## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS RETURNING TO A PRIVATE AIRSTRIP NEAR PARKERS PRAIRIE, MN.

DURING THE FLIGHT, HE CONTACTED HIS BROTHER TO VERIFY THAT THE AIRSTRIP HAD BEEN PLOWED AND WAS OPERATIONAL.

THE PILOT ARRIVED IN THE PARKERS PRAIRIE AREA AROUND 6:25PM, APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR AFTER OFFICIAL SUNSET.

WITNESSES REPORTED THE AIRCRAFT OVER THEIR PROPERTY, JUST NORTH OF THE ACCIDENT SITE. THEY STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS VERY LOW AND ESTIMATED IT TO BE 30 ABOVE THE GROUND.

THEY REPORTED THE ENGINE SOUNDED NORMAL AS IT FLEW OVER THEIR HOUSE. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, THEY HEARD THE ENGINE "SPUTTER" FOLLOWED BY THE SOUND OF A CRASH.

THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED A PLOWED, SNOW COVERED FIELD WHERE IT BEGAN TO BREAK APART AND CAME TO A REST IN A GROVE OF TREES APPROXIMATELY 150 YARDS FROM THE INITIAL IMPACT POINT. THE PILOT WAS FATALLY INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN13FA172](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN13FA172), Feb 21, 2013: Maule MXT-7-180 (N9229Y), Parkers Parairie, MN, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to transfer fuel from the auxiliary fuel tanks to the main fuel tanks in a timely manner, which resulted in fuel starvation to the engine.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
