## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER COMPLETING THREE PRACTICE ILS APPROACHES ON A DUAL FLIGHT, THE PILOT WANTED TO DO A VFR APPROACH AND CROSSWIND LANDING. THE WINDS WERE 180 AT 10 GUSTING TO 14 (MIGHT HAVE BEEN MORE) AND LANDING ON RUNWAY 8 AT F45, RESULTING IN A SLIGHT QUARTERING AND GUSTING TAILWIND.

AFTER LANDING, THE TAILWIND WEATHERVANED THE AIRCRAFT RESULTING IN A LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL CONTROL.

THE INSTRUCTOR ATTEMPTED TO CONTROL THE AIRCRAFT BUT DUE TO A LACK OF UNDERSTANDING OF WHO WAS IN CONTROL, NEITHER PILOT WAS ABLE TO PREVENT THE AIRCRAFT FROM EXITING RUNWAY 8 ONTO RUNWAY 13 AT HIGH SPEED RESULTING IN THE AIRCRAFT VEERING OFF THE RUNWAY ONTO THE GRASS AND INTO A DITCH WHICH CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO COME TO A STOP NOSE DOWN IN THE GRASS.

RECOMMEND COUNSELING FOR THE PILOT AND 44709 FOR THE INSTRUCTOR.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
