## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MARCH 13, 2013, LUSCOMBE 8A, N1544K WAS BEING OPERATED BY THE OWNER AND HIS FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR FOR THE PURPOSE OF INSTRUCTION. THE OWNER HAD JUST FINISHED THE REBUILD OF THE AIRPLANE AND WAS BEING INSTRUCTED ON ITS OPERATIONAL CHARACTERISTICS. AFTER THE COMPLETION OF THE SIXTH LANDING, WHILE THE AIRPLANE WAS DECCELERATING AND THE ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^PILOT WAS MANIPULATING THE FLIGHT CONTROLS, HE WAS TRANSITIONING HIS FEET FROM THE RUDDER PEDALS TO THE HEEL BRAKES (WHICH ARE CLOSE TO THE RUDDER PEDALS), AND MUST HAVE PRESSED TO HARD ON THE RIGHT BRAKE PEDAL. THE EVENT RESULTED IN THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSE AND SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING. THE AIRPLANE ONLY HAS HEEL BRAKE PEDALS ON THE LEFT SEAT SIDE OF THE COCKPIT, SO THE CFI (ON THE RIGHT SIDE) COULD NOT INTERVENE. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE HAS SIZE 13 SHOES AND HE JUST MUST HAVE PRESSED TOO HARD, TOO SOON.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
