## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT PILOT AT THE CONTROLS TOOK OFF ON TRAINING FLIGHT ENROUTE TO LOCAL AIRPORT FOR FUEL (PILOT REPORTED HE HAD 3 GALLONS OF FUEL ONBOARD). ON CLIMBOUT AT ABOUT A 150 FEET INSTRUCTOR NOTICED THE ENGINE RPM WAS DROPPING (HOWEVER ENGINE WAS STILL MAKING POWER) AND TOOK OVER THE CONTROLS. PILOT DECIDED TO MAKE A 360 DEGREE TURN BACK TO THE RUNWAY AT WHICH TIME THE LEFT WING STALLED CAUSING AIRCRAFT TO SPIN TO GROUND. THE LEFT WING STRUCK THE GROUND FIRST THEN AIRCRAFT LANDED ON ITS BELLY CAUSING SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING, LANDING GEAR, FUSELAGE, PROPELLER AND LOWER SIDE OF THE ENGINE. THE STUDENT PILOT SUSTAINED A CUT TO THE FOREHEAD. STUDENT AND INSTRUCTOR WERE BOTH TRANSPORTED TO LOCAL HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT AND OBSERVATION. THERE WAS NO POST CRASH FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN13LA193](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN13LA193), Mar 13, 2013: Piper J3C-65 (N88313), Seguin, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The partial loss of engine power for reasons that could not be undetermined because an examination of the engine did not reveal any malfunctions or failures that would preclude normal operation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
