## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT STATED AIRCRAFT HIT SHIFTING WINDS DURING FLARE AND TOUCHDOWN CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO PITCH NOSE UP AND DRIFT EAST OF RUNWAY 16 AT BOUNTIFUL SKYPARK. HE ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE SITUATION BUT THE AIRCRAFT NOSED DOWN AND HIT THE GRASS AREA BESIDE THE RUNWAY CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO CARTWHEEL. IT STOPPED UPSIDE DOWN WITH AN IMMEDIATE FIRE INSIDE THE AIRCRAFT FROM FUEL. HE WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE AIRCRAFT IMMEDIATELY WITH ONLY A SINGED LEFT PANT LEG.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR13CA153](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR13CA153), Mar 18, 2013: Andre Kostrzewa Mustang 2 (N670AK), Bountiful, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain airplane control during the landing flare in tailwind conditions, which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
