## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING OPERATED BY ITS OWNER, WHO HOLDS A STUDENT PILOT CERTIFICATE. THE PILOT WAS OPERATING THE AIRCRAFT ON A PRIVATE FLIGHT AT NIGHT WITH ONE PASSENGER ABOARD. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK POWER LINES APPROXIMATELY 102 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL. AFTER STRIKING THE POWER LINE, THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO TRAVEL APPROXIMATELY 3/4 OF A MILE BEFORE COMING TO REST IN A RURAL FIELD. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AND BOTH OCCUPANTS RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN13LA211](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN13LA211), Mar 27, 2013: Bellanca 17-30A (N96JG), Plainview, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's improper decision to fly in night visual meteorological conditions and his failure to maintain altitude and clearance from obstacles.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
