## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT LANDED GEAR-UP AT OCEANSIDE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT. THE PILOT AND ACCOMPANYING CFI WERE CONDUCTING A FLYING CLUB CHECK-OUT FLIGHT.

THE CFI SIMULATED AN ENGINE-OUT APPROACH WHICH STARTED AT APPROXIMATELY 3800'AGL. THE PILOT BEGAN THE ENGINE-OUT APPROACH CHECKLIST AND ENTERED THE PATTERN AT OCEANSIDE. THERE WAS MUCH DISCUSSION ABOUT GLIDE RATIOS, TECHNIQUES, AND SPEEDS BETWEEN THE PILOTS.

THE PILOTS BECAME TASK SATURATED AND FAILED TO EXTEND THE LANDING GEAR OR COMPLETE THE ENGINE-OUT LANDING CHECKLIST.

CONTRIBUTING FACTORS INCLUDED: LANDING WEST INTO BRIGHT SUNSHINE GLARE, THE ABSENCE OF A LANDING GEAR WARNING HORN, NO RED LANDING GEAR UNSAFE LIGHT VISIBLE, AND A POTENTIALLY DISABLED AUTOMATIC LANDING GEAR EXTENSION SYSTEM.

THE GEAR-UP LANDING RESULTED IN MINOR DAMAGE TO THE UNDER SIDE OF THE AIRCRAFT SKIN, AND TO THE PROPELLER WHICH STRUCK THE GROUND.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
