## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT IN COMMAND, A CERTIFIED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR, WAS ADMINISTERING AN INTRODUCTORY FLIGHT LESSON AND OCCUPIED THE RIGHT SEAT. A THIRD PERSON OCCUPIED A REAR SEAT. AN APPROACH WAS FLOWN TO RUNWAY 30. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN AT THE RUNWAY THRESHOLD, BECAME AIRBORNE, AND TOUCHED DOWN AGAIN TO THE FAR LEFT OF THE RUNWAY CENTERLINE AND APPROXIMATELY 500 FEET FROM THE THRESHOLD. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED OFF THE RUNWAY SURFACE WITH THE LEFT WHEEL PENETRATING REEDS AND SOFT EARTH. THE LEFT WING STRUCK A SMALL TREE CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO ROTATE COUNTERCLOCKWISE. THE RIGHT WING CONTACTED THE GROUND AS THE AIRCRAFT SPUN. THE NOSE WHEEL WAS SEVERED AS THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A REST APPROXIMATELY 585 FEET FROM THE THRESHOLD.

THE SURFACE OF RUNWAY 30 IS CONSTRUCTED OF TURF AND GRAVEL. IT IS 1,600 FEET LONG AND 70 FEET WIDE. THERE ARE 50 FOOT TREES 400 FEET FROM THE RUNWAY AND 125 FEET LEFT OF THE CENTERLINE, REQUIRING A 8:1 SLOPE TO CLEAR. THE RUNWAY LISTING IS FAIR , BUT THIS IS NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURRENT SEASONAL CONDITION.

NO CURRENT NOTAMS WERE ISSUED FOR THE AIRPORT. THE NEAREST METAR WINDS REPORTED NEAR THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WERE AS FOLLOWS:

KBED (10.1 NM FROM 6B6)-201256Z 2807.

KBOS (23.4 NM FROM 6B6)-201254Z 2913.

KBVY (27.6 NM FROM 6B6)-201333Z 2810G18.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA13CA210](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA13CA210), Apr 20, 2013: Cessna 172N (N739CK), Stow, MA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control while landing in gusty wind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
