## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

IN LEVEL FLIGHT AND SLOWING TO MATCH SPEED OF NEARBY FELLOW STEARMAN, THE THROTTLE BECAME UNRESPONSIVE AND ENGINE REMAINED AT IDLE THROUGH ALL THROTTLE SETTINGS. TURNING ON AUX FUEL PUMP WAS NO-HELP. DETERMINED IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO RETURN TO THE NEAREST AIRPORT AND FOUND IT NECESSARY TO PICK A SUITABLE PLACE TO PUT THE AIRCRAT DOWN.

LANDED AIRCRAFT IN A VINEYARD WITH NORMAL TOUCHDOWN BUT A LOT OF DEBRIS SCATTERING AROUND THE AIRCRAFT. AS THE AIRCRAFT SLOWED TO A STOP THE WIRES FROM THE VINEYARDS PUT ENOUGH DOWN FORCE TO SLOWLY SETTLE THE AIRCRAFT UPSIDE DOWN. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR13LA212](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR13LA212), Apr 20, 2013: Boeing A75N1 (N985SS), Santa Rosa, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The partial loss of engine power due to fuel contamination and partially blocked fuel screens.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
