## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PTRS NUMBER: AL07201301894.

DURING AN OPERATION IN THE GATES OF THE ARCTIC NATIONAL PRESERVE ON THE ALATNA RIVER AREA, THE PILOT MADE SEVERAL PASSES AND DRAGGED HIS WHEELS ON THE FROZEN RIVER ABOUT 4 TIMES TO ENSURE THE LANDING AREA WAS SAFE TO LAND. AFTER LANDING BOTH WHEELS BROKE THROUGH THE TOP LAYER OF ICE AND RESTED ON THE SECOND LAYER WHICH WAS ABOUT 4" BELOW THE FIRST. THE RESULT WAS THE AIRCRAFT NOSED OVER, STRIKING THE PROP. ONCE STOPPED THE TAIL CAME BACK DOWN ON THE TAIL WHEEL.

THE PILOT WAS THE SINGLE SOUL ON BOARD, AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED.

ONLY THE PROPELLER WAS DAMAGED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
