## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ACCCORDING TO THE PILOT, HE TOUCHED DOWN THE AIRCRAFT APPROXIMATELY HALFWAY DOWN THE RUNWAY (THE RUNWAY IS 3000 FT) AND DECIDED TO PERFORM A GO AROUND BECAUSE HE FELT HE DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH DISTANCE TO STOP THE AIRCRAFT (THERE ARE TREES AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY). ACCORDING TO AN EYEWITNESS, THE PILOT LANDED LONG ON RUNWAY 06 AND TOOK OFF AGAIN FOR A GO AROUND APPROXIMATELY 600 FEET FROM DEPARTURE END OF RUNWAY. THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN ALTITUDE AND AIRSPEED ON CLIMBOUT AND CRASHED INTO A GROVE OF TREES APPROXIMATELY 1/4 MILE FROM THE RUNWAY. THE WEATHER WAS VMC AND THE WINDS WERE GUSTING FROM THE SSE (EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT).

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA13CA218](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA13CA218), Apr 26, 2013: Cessna 172P (N96178), Davis, WV, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s improper glidepath as he approached the runway and his subsequent delayed decision to abort the landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
