AIRCRAFT LANDED IN AN OPEN FIELD AND HIT A DITCH SPANNING THE FIELD. THE FINAL POSITION WAS INVERTED. FUEL RECEIPTS SHOWED THE AIRCRAFT HAD RECEIVED 27 GALLONS AT THE START OF THE FLIGHT. ALL ATTEMPTS BY THE PILOT TO USE CARB HEAT AND MIXTURE VARIATIONS FAILED TO PRODUCE RESULTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA13FA217](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA13FA217), Apr 27, 2013: Cessna 172N (N5944J), Dade City, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The in-flight loosening of the No. 3 cylinder exhaust valve rocker arm stud, which resulted in a complete loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
