## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT WAS EN-ROUTE FROM DILLINGHAM, AK TO ANCHORAGE, AK IN VFR WEATHER, WITH THE PILOT AND 1 PASSENGER. THE AIRCRAFT WAS OPERATING UNDER 14 CFR 91. A WEATHER REPORT WAS OBTAINED ONLINE AND FROM A PILOT THAT HAD BEEN OPERATING EARLIER IN THE DAY. WEATHER AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT WAS VFR ? THE WEATHER IS NOT A FACTOR IN THIS INCIDENT.

ABOUT 25 MINUTES OUT OF DILLINGHAM, AK (042 DEGS. 39.8 NM FROM THE DILLINGHAM ?DLG? VOR/DME), WITH THE AIRCRAFT IN CRUISE FLIGHT THE PILOT HEARD A ?POP? SOUND (LOUD NOISE) THAT CAME FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, FOLLOWED BY AN AIRFRAME VIBRATION. THE PILOT REDUCED POWER, FOLLOWED BY AN ENGINE SHUT DOWN.

THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO GLIDE THE AIRCRAFT FOR AN ENGINE OUT LANDING AT EKWOK, AK.

AFTER THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A STOP, THE PILOT AND THE PASSENGER VACATED THE AIRCRAFT, AFTER WHICH THE PILOT OPENED THE ENGINE COWLING. ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE JUST ABOVE THE NUMBER 6 CYLINDER CLOSE TO THE CASE HALVES THE PILOT NOTICED A HOLE IN THE ENGINE CASE ASSEMBLY. THE PILOT ALSO FOUND A PIECE OF METAL IN THE COWLING THAT APPEARS TO HAVE COME FROM THE ENGINE CASE ITSELF.

PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING SMOOTH, WITH NO REPORTED ISSUES.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
