## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

N64030 A CESSNA 172 WAS INVOLVED IN A MID AIR COLLISION WITH N4677V, A CESSNA 172RG. N64030 IMPACTED THE GROUND IN THE SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS NEAR MALIBU CREEK AND BURNED. N4677V MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON THE WESTLAKE VILLAGE GOLF COURSE. METAL PARTS OF N46030 WERE FOUND ON THE GROUND NEXT TO N4677V. IT APPEARS IN THE INVESTIGATION THAT N64030, THE CESSNA 172, WAS TRAVELING TOWARDS N4677V, THE CESSNA 172RG, AT AN 80 DEGREE ANGLE OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF N4677V, AND MIGHT HAVE TAKEN EVASIVE ACTION. THE RIGHT HORIZONTAL STABLIZER OF N64030 HIT THE LEFT WING STRUT AND INBOARD LEFT WING SECTION OF N6477V, CAUSING ITS WING DAMAGE AND CAUSING THE RIGHT HORIZONTAL STABLIZER TO SEPARATE FROM N64030. THIS CAUSED THE LOSE OF CONTROL OF N64030 WHICH IMPACTED THE GROUND AT A STEEP ANGLE AND STARTED A BRUSH FIRE WHICH ENGULFED THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR13FA211](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR13FA211), Apr 29, 2013: Cessna 172M (N64030), Calabasas, CA, destroyed, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The failure of the pilots in both aircraft to maintain an adequate visual lookout, which resulted in a midair collision.

## Other reports on N64030 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19790512028739I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19790512028739I), May 12, 1979: Cessna 172 (N64030), Santa Barbara, CA, Minor damage. While taxiing, pilot let left wing of aircraft hit stationary prop of parked airplane. Ramp crew was guiding.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
